The BBS Corner
About The BBS Corner

Since our inception in April 1996, a number of changes have happned, both for the site itself and Bulletin Board systems as a whole. This is an overview of our history and a timeline.

Site History

The BBS Corner came about when there was a posting on an Internet Usenet newsgroup "alt.bbs" in the spring of 1996. Wayne Coombs of Los Angeles, CA was asking for someone to partner with him on a new website called thedirectory of BBSes and Internet Providers. I answered his request to help design, build and maintain the site. (Oh, there was also this incentive of money from banner ads - which NEVER did pan out!)

I probably spent over two months of solid research on what was out there with the crude search engines of the time (remember - this was before Google!). From the beginning, I wanted a site that both BBS SysOps and BBS Users could benefit from. I knew that the BBS world was dying fast and hopefully this would not only slow down the demise of BBS systems, but hopefully spurn new interest in them. With the success of many related BBS sites and dedicated software authors that have either have stuck around or came out of retirement - the BBS medium is still here to stay and hopefully once again flourish - but this time in a new form on the Internet.

The experimenters of the computer world were the first ones to explore and establish the BBS community - and it is still there. Lets hope the momentum keeps continuing. Your continued support of The BBS Corner has encouraged me to not only continue the site, but to improve its functionality, and finally, its presentation. This version you see now is the fourth generation of this site. It is now hosted on its third domain (dmine.com). In June 2003, I finally decided to try WYSIWYG (What Your See is What You Get) web page authoring and so far it looks like its going to work. Its a big learning curve, but the results are great!
