National Candy Day

Friday, October 31st, 2003

I can’t believe it. I went to bed at 7:30 PM last night. I’m trying to fight a head cold. Yesterday my head felt like it was full of cotton. Ugh! Tonight’s the night where weird looking kids come knocking on my door asking for candy. I hope I have enough candy. Looks like it will be a good night weather wise (70s during the day, 50s at night). And no sniper like last year!

Rod Roddy - Rest in Peace

Tuesday, October 28th, 2003

I learned this morning that Rod Roddy, the famed announcer of CBS’s “Price is Right” died of complications related to colon and (gasp!) breast cancer on Monday. I knew he had cancer, but thought he had beaten it. I guess not. This is the second announcer that Bob Barker has outlived. Johnny Olsen was the first announcer and he passed away in 1985. In other news, I heard last week that Fred “Rerun” Berry of the 70’s show “What’s Happening?” died as well. You know when you’re getting old when famous people you grew up with are dying at a rapid rate.

Found out today that I’ll be going on not one, but two business trips in November.. ugh.

San Diego trip / Cable Modem woes

Monday, October 27th, 2003

Lots of catching up to do…

I’m finally back from wonderful San Diego on yet another trip and boy are my arms tired (grin). I guess I got out of there in time. The fires are getting pretty bad from what I hear. Attended a nice systems engineering conference. I spoke at the conference and I had the unfortunate luck of being the last one to speak! Ugh! It was held at a nice hotel and managed to see the ocean for a brief moment. Also got to ride a vintage roller coaster!

The world series was the 3rd least watched in history… I wonder why? (yawn). It would have been a great world series if the Cubs and Red Sox played each other!

And I’m still pissed at my cable company.. they can’t run a cable modem service worth a darn. Its supposed to be fast, right? Not Adelphia! They sometimes run slower than a dial-up modem!

Aunt Pauline - Rest in Peace

My aunt on my father’s side passed away from complications related to colon cancer today.

BBS off line / Bank holiday / Chinese in Space

Monday, October 13th, 2003

Sorry the Diamond Mine was off line this weekend.. dang Adelphia (who can’t run a cable company worth a damn) change the IP address on Saturday. All should be OK now.

Today I have off, as my employer observes those stupid bank holidays. Speaking of banks, my bank merged with a mega bank last Friday… we’ll see how long I stay a customer.

Sigfried and Roy.. Sigfried said that the tiger was trying to save Roy.. yeah right. I heard rumors that Roy isn’t actually the first Roy, but the second! I’m glad I didn’t waste money to see them when I was out in Vegas this spring and last spring!

I heard that last week was the first time that all the songs in Billboard’s top 10 list were all “jungle music”. Society as we know it is doomed. Remember, you can’t spell CRAP without RAP!

The Chinese are planning on launching people into space, making it the third country that has done so.. now that the US has landed on the moon several times, and the US and Russia have the ISS, my question is why? I guess they think they have something to prove? I hear they’re so afraid of failure that they’re not gonna televise the launch live!

Arnold the governator?

Friday, October 10th, 2003

Arnold… he is not fit for governor of California… he is about as dumb as a box of rocks.. maybe more dumb. If people think that he’s gonna fix their problems, they’re gonna be real sorry. The sound you hear is another recall about to start… Minnesota had Jesse, now California has Ahhnold. Ugh. He claims he’s a convervative, but how can you be conservative being married to a Kennedy?

Sharp dressed house

Wednesday, October 8th, 2003

Had a new door installed on my house today. Looks real nice. Replaces one that rusted away. Looks the same except that its new and not rusted! Goes along with the freshly sealed driveway and other stuff I had done on the house. Now all I need to do is have the outside painted and it will look really sharp.

More business trips

Monday, October 6th, 2003

Went with my group to give a brief of what we do at work up in Harrisburg, PA. Gonna return next week for another meeting. And later I go to San Diego… time to make sure my frequent flyer miles are counted!
