Its cold outside

Friday, January 28th, 2005

Had the stitches removed yesterday. OUCH! Not fun. Hopefully no more moles removed for a while. Doc said it was bengin (non-cancerous).

Brrrrrr! Its been cold, well at least cold for around here. Last weekend we had a “snow event” (a little one by my standards, a good sized one for Virginians). Looks like we’re gonna have another one on Sunday.

Been working on the new version of the BBS. Still gonna look like the same thing, but adding new stuff. Rob Swindell upgraded Synchronet to ver 3.12a on New Year’s Eve (which is also his birthday). I’m running 3.10 from about 2 years ago - time to upgrade. But upgrades do NOT go well, so I’m installing from scratch. Copy over the configs, then the data files, but not the engine as that will be a fresh install. Main advantages - bug fixes and finally a WEB interface! (kinda simple, but it does work).

Upgraded (well, a fresh install) to Win XP this past weekend. It was about the cleanest install I’ve EVER done. Worked on the first try. Recognized the video card, monitor and NIC. Had to install drivers for the SB Audigy and dial-up modem (that one was weird.. its a Zoom but XP calls it a Best Data… still can’t get the speaker to work). Other than that its been pretty smooth sailing. Disable the crap (auto updates, firewall, etc) in SP2 and it works rather well. Still installing the programs. Mostly back to “normal”.

Dubbya’s second term / Lets get (a) physical

Friday, January 21st, 2005

Well, Dubbya started a second term yesterday. Yawn. At least it wasn’t Kerry, though. However, I feel it was too much partying during a time of war. He did it once four years ago. All he needed to do was the swearing in ceremony and be done with it and get on with life. Also, the government weenies in DC metro got the day off, but I didn’t (worked too far away).

In other news, when I went for a physical two weeks ago, the doc was concerned about a mole on my chest, said it had to go. So it went tonight. Took a small chunk out of my chest. Not fun. Doesn’t really hurt, but it lets me know its there (or was there). Several stitches are where it once was - they get removed next week.

Time for CBS to clean house

Monday, January 10th, 2005

Well, its about time the CBS arm of Viacom cleaned house! (I bet 99% of you didn’t know CBS is owned by Viacom, which was a former spin-off of CBS circa 1971!) Four producers got the ax. I wish it was more. Why in the hell did Dan Rathernot get fired? Oh, that’s right, he’s “leaving” the CBS Evening News in March. Oh, he also took the day off when these four got canned! Gee, how convenient? But Dan Ratherbiased will stick around for “60 Minutes II”, the infamous program where the Bush lie aired in the first place! Dan should just leave CBS period and just go home and retire. You blew it Dan! Oh, in addition, why doesn’t the head of CBS quit too? Isn’t it HIS responsibility to make sure that what goes out isn’t a blatant lie? Yes, Leslie Moonves (what a name! And Leslie is a HE!) should leave his post at CBS and also disappear. CBS has lost all credibility. Time to start fresh!

Happy New Year 2005

Saturday, January 1st, 2005

Happy New Year everybody! I hope that 2005 is MUCH better than 2004. There are a lot of things in 2004 that will live on in 2005. The Iraq war. The tsunami damage. Bumbling Bush. Death and taxes. So what’s really changed in 2005? Just changing the dates on our checks (and websites). I guess when you get to my age that your priorities change - even if you don’t want them to. You worry about other things in life - like work and getting things done around the house - even though you’d like to do fun things, like working on websites. However, I hope that 2005 is good for each and everyone of you who read and use this website or are members of the Diamond Mine Online BBS.
