Trip to Pacific Northwest / Bruce’s wedding

Wednesday, May 25th, 2005

I apologize for not updating the Daily Rant. But I had a good reason. I was out in Washington state attending my brother’s wedding. Bruce and Melody make a very good couple.

I wasn’t going to fly all the way to Seattle just to see my bro get married - so I decided to make it a vacation. A TWO week vacation in fact. Our father and I flew in on May 7th. The four of us (and sometimes Melody’s youngest son Harrison) went on trips - such as Mt St. Helens, Capital Peak (near Olympia), the Space Needle, and other interesting places.

On May 12th, Diana (the better 2/3rds) and Heather (her daughter) flew in from DC. We all were at the wedding on Friday the 13th (!) at the Tacoma Elks lodge, where Bruce is a member.

Saturday the 14th - Dad flew home - and Diana, Heather and myself went all over God’s (very) green Earth! Here’s a list of where we went:

Tillicum Village (near Seattle, WA)
Butchart Gardens (near Victoria, BC Canada)
The beach at Westport, WA (near Aberdeen, WA)
The beach at Long Beach, WA (near Astoria, OR)
Sea Lion Caves (near Florence, OR)
Mt. St. Helens (yes, the Mt. St. Helens - 25 years after it blew up)
Olympia, WA (my old stomping grounds from age 4 to age 12)
and finally… Mt. Rainier (Historical name - Mt. Tahoma)

We covered about 1300 miles in a week in a rented PT Cruiser! (not the best car - but not the worst either). Also went on five mini-cruises (well, ferry rides) up and down Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.I hope to have some photos on here one of these years. (maybe sometime this weekend.. I’m still playing catch-up!)

I flew back on May 21st (after a VERY long SIX hour delay in Seattle - the plane had mechanical problems). I got back at 1:30 AM on Sunday the 22nd - and went to bed after coming back to the house, taking care of the mess that our three cats left for me (a VERY full litter box for one!). Diana picked up her distant cousin from Bellevue, WA and the three of them are travelling the country in “Thelma & Louise” style. The cousin gets dropped off in North Carolina, and the Mother-Daughter duo get back here around June 3rd. Until then - I’m on vacation from THEM! :-)
