Back from Conclave

Sunday, July 31st, 2005

Got back from a LONG weekend away at Radford, VA. I was at the annual Virginia DeMolay Conclave at Radford University. Our Northern Neck Chapter guys didn’t really complete in much this time (no ritual comps - we are a little low on membership right now) but we did win state tennis singles & doubles and volleyball competitions. The only really bad part of the weekend is that I found out how fragile my voice is. Normally I could cheer and holler and be fine, but now I know that I can’t do that anymore. I’m now hoarse :(. Hopefully by tomorrow I’ll be OK.

New York & Connecticut trip / Diana’s reunion

Monday, July 25th, 2005

What a weekend! Up to Long Island, then off to Connecticut, then to upstate New York, and back home in Virginia. Whew!

Diana had a good time at her reunion. Of course I didn’t know anyone at the reunion, but I was a trooper for being “her husband”. However, I did like going up there to get away from here for a few days.

Verizon’s landlines not very reliable

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

More bombings. Wonderful, just wonderful..not.

Oh, I have a beef with Verizon landline. On Sunday and again tonight, our phones don’t work. Sunday was a complete outage for over 24 hours, tonight you can get dial tone, but you can’t “break” dial tone to make calls. Also, others cannot hear me when they call us (sounds like forward voice path is messed up). Either way, thank goodness for cell phones and cable modem broadband!

Off to Long Island, NY for a long weekend starting tomorrow. Be back Monday night

Really made of Swiss cheese?

Wednesday, July 20th, 2005

The moon is really made of Swiss cheese! Don’t believe me? In honor of the 36th anniversary of the first moon landing, Google now has aerial pictures of the moon where you can see all the manned moon landings. But when you zoom in to the most detailed setting, you’ll see what the moon is really made out of.

Tons of hits

Monday, July 18th, 2005

I can’t believe this! Because of my July 11th rant (below), this page, which normally gets about 130 hits a week, got an astonishing 4,000 hits in one week. I guess Google and MSN Search got a hold of it, and people thought it was information on the aforementioned people. Wow! I just wonder if my bandwidth limit has been exceeded.

Wacko Jacko gets off

Wednesday, July 13th, 2005

Damn. Double damn. 10 times damn. Wacko Jacko got off on all 10 counts (yeah, he probably “got off” too). At least he should have gotten a guilty verdict on the alcohol charges, but probably the way the wacky California laws are written, the jury had no choice. I really REALLY wanted him off the streets. Guess it isn’t gonna happen now.

Sad news of note for DC area radio fans

Monday, July 11th, 2005

This is news that only us folks in the Washington, DC area will understand…

David Haines, the news guy at WPGC died on Sunday in his early fifties. Freda Sorce, wife of “Don Geromino (Mike Sorce) of WJFK died yesterday as well. Very sad day indeed. Both will be very much missed.

A good Fourth / Change without prior notice

Friday, July 8th, 2005

Had a good Fourth of July with Diana’s relatives. But of course its good to be back home too.

My new pet peeve of the week - changing the date and time of a meeting when you’ve driven half way there in heavy rush hour traffic. Grrrrrrr……
