A not so Merry Christmas

Sunday, December 25th, 2005

Not a Christmas to remember. This is the first Christmas without my father and the fifth without my mother. And to make things worse, our dog “Puppy” (a full grown Lhasa Apso mix) died tonight shortly after 7 PM. Needless to say, can’t 2006 come here any faster?

Trying to have a good holiday

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

Not much new going on around here of interest. Just getting ready for the holidays considering what’s been going on in my life right now. Hopefully the new year will be more joyful and fun, but between now and then, I have a lot of work to do.

Cleaning out the old house

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

Dad’s house is mostly cleaned out. Gave away a lot of stuff, and threw out three dump truck loads worth of junk. What we’re not keeping or giving away will be sold at auction, just to get rid of it and not move it here (we’re out of room!). Gonna go up later this week to give it one final clean-out before putting it on the market.

Driving a 17 foot U-Haul truck from Pittsburgh to Fredericksburg (distance about 325 miles) was not fun. Then to unload it was not fun either. Needless to say, I’m glad I have a few days to recover from all this. My back, arms and legs are killing me!

If nobody hears it / Preparing for the memorial service

Thursday, December 1st, 2005

The merger of AT&T and SBC (old Southwestern Bell) has been completed. If a company merges and nobody cares, do they still exist? Sadly, the “glory” days of AT&T are over. With competition, long distance is ultra cheap, sometimes “free” as part of a package deal. Oh, go to the new AT&T website and check out the “new” logo. Looks similar to the old one, but less like the “Death Star” logo that AT&T used from 1984 to just recently.

Leaving today for PA for dad’s memorial service and cleaning out the house. My brother and his wife arrive today at the airport.
