How To Upload or Download Files
on the Diamond Mine Online

Assuming you’re at the Main Menu of the Diamond Mine Online, press F to go to the File Transfer Menu, as shown below.

Click on the picture for a larger version.

We will go over a step by step example of how to find a file on the Diamond Mine Online and download the file.

NOTE - You MUST use a Telnet Client that supports File Downloads. Please do NOT use this feature with the built-in telnet client that comes with Windows. Please use mTelnet or other similar telnet client that supports Zmodem file downloads.

Example - Finding Telix for DOS for communications.
In this example, you are trying to find the shareware version of Telix for DOS version 3.51 for download. Here are the steps in order to go through the directories to find it and download it.

At the File Transfer Menu menu, press J (Jump To Directory). You'll get the screen shown below. There are two main file libraries at the Diamond Mine - Main Files and MIDI (music) files. In our case, select Main File Library by pressing 1.

You will then get the screens below. This is a list of all the file directories available within the Main File Library. In our example, we press 10 for DOS - Communications Programs.

You will get the screen shown below. Notice it is like the screen at the top of the page, but you'll see that the bottom has a new prompt that shows the active file directory has been changed to the one you selected.

Press L to List Files in Current Directory. You'll get the next screen with the prompt. Pressing the Enter key assumes you wish to have All Files listed. Otherwise, type in the name of the file you wish, or use Wildcards like the * (star/asterisk) for parts of a file name, or for an extension (.ZIP, etc.).

You will go through a series of screens like the one listed below. Note the structure of the listing. The file name is on the left in blue, A letter (A through Z) is next, the size of the file in purple, and a file description in dark green. The alphabet letter is used to tag a file for download, as will be shown below.

We have found the file we want - TELIX351.ZIP. We "tag" it by pressing the corresponding letter next to the file name. So we press C to tag this file for download.

We then complete our search in this directory and it returns us back to the File Transfer Menu. At this point, we choose to download the file by either pressing B (Batch Transfer) or D (Download File). We get a prompt if we wish to download the files in the queue now (press Y or hit enter).

Next we get a choice of file transfer protocols. FOR ALL TELNET FILE TRANSFERS, SELECT ZMODEM. Do NOT choose ANY other protocol. These are carryovers from the old modem days.

At this time, the file will start to transfer. This is the file transfer screen from mTelnet, the recommended Telnet client for use with the Diamond Mine Online.

When the file has completed, you will be prompted to either hang up, or abort and return to the File Transfer Menu. In our case, we will "hang up" (disconnect) and the session will end.
